College and Career Readiness Plan (CCRP) Program of Study: (CCTE) Electrical Technology
Students will be introduced to the basic skills and theory needed to enter the electrical industry as an apprentice electrician. They will learn Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety practices including the use of hand and power tools, and the interpretation of electrical blueprints and schematics used in the installation of electrical wiring and equipment. Students will be eligible to obtain the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation Apprentice Electrician License. The cost of the license is $20. This licensure allows the student to begin compiling the 8,000 hours needed to obtain the
Journey Electricians’ License.
*Courses offered in conjunction with El Paso Community College: ELPT 1321 Introduction to Electrical Safety: Dual Credit/Fall Semester DFTG 1313 Drafting for Specific Occupation: Dual Credit/Spring Semester
Students will be introduced to electrical motor control and the National Electrical Code. They will learn how to apply the Code to various residential, commercial, and industrial applications. Upon completion, students will receive NCCER core curriculum and electrical level one, which is recognized as a national certification. In addition, students will obtain the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10 hour construction authorization card.
