El Paso ISD’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs are “Changing Lives and Building Futures.”  Our teachers and students have been recognized at the regional, state, and national levels for their accomplishments in the classroom, in our community, and in the various competitive events associated with their respective CTE student organizations.  We credit this success to strong support by parents, business and postsecondary partners, El Paso ISD’s Board of Trustees, and the Superintendent in providing the resources necessary for quality Career and Technical Education programs for El Paso ISD students.
In addition, we are part of a tremendous statewide initiative known as AchieveTexas, which is the name of Texas’s college and career education initiative.  The idea behind it is simple:  Planning for the future so that students achieve lifelong success.  Sixteen Career Clusters have been identified by the U.S. Department of Education and Texas.  These clusters identify 81 pathways from high school to two- and four-year colleges, technical schools, graduate schools, apprenticeship programs and the workplace so that learners can recognize the relationship between what they learn in school and what they can do in the future.  This connection to future goals motivates students to work harder and enroll in more rigorous courses.  We have implementing all16 Career Clusters identified in this initiative into our CTE programs.  For more information about this initiative, please go to www.achievetexas.org.
When high-quality CTE programs are integrated with high-quality academic core content, students understand the relevance of curriculum in preparation for their future.  Employers are demanding that their future employees be able to apply academic and technical skills to real-world problems that are encountered in the workplace.  According to the U. S. Department of Labor, 85% of all jobs will require students to further their education beyond high school.  CTE is critical in meeting this demand.
Further, CTE is about more than helping our students achieve career success, it is also about making contributions that comes in all shapes and sizes—contributions every business partner, every parent and every member of our community can make to help us continue to prepare students for a life of achievement, leadership, and service.  We want to genuinely thank our business partners and parents that currently contribute to our programs by either serving as a judges in various student competitive events, and/or as a mentor/guest speaker in our classrooms.  These individuals are definitely impacting the lives of our students and helping us build strong CTE programs that are preparing our students for distinguished success in the future!
